True Performance Photography opened it's doors in December 2004. It grew out of what I felt was a need to have action photographs of our children during sporting events. Having a now 15 year old son who had come up through the ranks of all the Little League, YMCA and school sponsored sporting events, the only photos available were simply Team photos or the individual photos of our child standing there holding a baseball bat or glove, football, tennis racket etc. For me these were nice but less than exciting. I think we have all seen the photos in Sports Illustrated or other sports related magazines and wonder how they get those great photos but never have any like that of our kids. Having photography as a hobby in my late teens, I purchased my first 35 mm SLR (Single Lens Reflex) camera in the late 1970's, photographing Air Shows, Drag Racing, Sky Diving and Hot Air Ballooning. I purchased a small 2.3 megapixel digital "Point and Shoot Camera" shortly after they came out, but was not really pleased with the results as compared to a SLR with interchangeable lens. I began researching the new Digital SLR's shortly after they came out but because the technology was so new it was way too much money to invest as a hobby. Prices began to drop so I decided to take the plunge in 2004 and purchased a Digital SLR so I could get some quality photographs of my son playing sports. I started out only taking photos of my son and his team-mates, as the word spread and other parents spread the word about these "Action Sports Photos" it appeared there was a need for this product. I currently use Canon Professional Photographic equipment, which allows me to capture some great photographs even under extreme conditions such as night football and baseball games, gyms and other poorly lit areas. My primary sports lens is the Canon "L-series" 70-200 mm Image Stabilized zoom lens. The Camera is capable of shooting five frames per second and captures photos at a resolution of 8 mega pixels. As of late 2007, the business continues to grow. With 70,000 plus images taken and many requests to cover different events, I have been unable to keep up. I have added an additional part-time freelance photographer Jerry Johnston Jr., His addition will help me to cover more events and multiple events occuring at the same time.
